It’s not “patents” that are attacking Android. It’s competing companies whose patents Google has violated — and whose business Android undermines — who are attacking Android.
Gruber goes apeshit on Google. It’s brutal. I kinda feel bad for Google. I mean, seriously, aren’t they just against patents? Patents are evil right? They’re so unnatural. What are you gonna patent the wheel? Words? Genes? And the idea that companies can buy patents from other companies only to execute them legally instead of using them to build stuff is just beyond me. Building stuff is what technology is all about. All these jerks talking about how much money Groupon or whatever is making is crap. That stuff won’t last not another year or two. But inventing the fucking Internet, yea that might last. But… that also does not belong to any one person anymore. Same as cars. Go cry me a river about how you can’t control your own ideas. No one can, they’re fucking ideas.
Then… when you’re all ready to get your head knocked off for Google, you find out they just want people to start using computers as much as possible so people can use the Internet and Google can gather information on them and sell that information to advertisers. Whoa…
It might be easy to miss here, but Gruber made no mistake. He’s straight out accusing Google of infringing on patents of other companies. Google straight up ripped the iPhone as much as possible for their design (software, hardware, app store). Without Apple, there might have never been and Android as we know it today.
I find it hard to buy into that for the same reason patents can’t be enforced, but I’m pretty sure those are Apple’s feelings exactly. I guess I haven’t really heard Apple or Gruber say much about it until now, so maybe while they own these patents, they themselves don’t really believe in them.
One can only hope.
Also, why is everyone picking on Google? Is that part of the 2012 apocolypse or is it just me? It just seems what Gruber and Co are doing is certainly going to breed fear, anger and resentment toward Google even if it’s subconsciously in everyone who listens to their show (basically the trendsetters in tech
